  • WHY DOUBLE BLUE EYED MAINE COONS ARE BAD

"DBE" Maine Coon refers to a specific lineage with dominant blue eyes, a trait linked to potential health issues like deafness, facial asymmetry, and other deformities. This trait is caused by a mutation in the PAX3 gene and can cause problems because the genetic defect can affect pigment development. Due to these potential health risks, many breeders and organizations discourage breeding for this trait.

  • What should I feed my cat?

The best food you can afford, backed by a veterinary team. We would suggest Purina Pro Plan or Royal Canin, and supplementing with a daily quality canned food.

Your cat should always have access to fresh and clean water, as well. Cats can be known not to drink enough water and that in turn can cause kidney issues.

  • What type of litter and box should I buy for my cat?

A high sided, large litter box is probably best. SOme people use automatic ones, but a lot of the time a Maine Coon is too large. I do not recommend a box with a lid or a flap, as this can often cause a cat to be upset and not use their box at all.

I use an XL mortar mixing tray from a Hardware store; they are huge, inexpensive, and easy to clean. We adhere to the 1 box per cat +1 method.

Clumping litter is the best and easiest in our experience, though we are trying out a few different litters to see what our cats like best.

  • What supplies do I need to bring home my new cat?

    Food

    Water and food dishes

    Carrier

    Litter and litter box

    Bed

    Toys

    Scratcher/ Cat tree

  • What grooming does a Maine Coon require?

Weekly brushing at minimum. We brush every other day or every day depending on how fluffy they are. We give baths mainly for the show halls, but you may need to give a monthly bath. All of our kittens have had their first few baths to be accustomed to it, and will have a fresh bath for their go home day :)

This kitten is never to be declawed.
